Joy received a B.S. degree in Chemistry from Denison University in 2022. While at Denison, Joy worked with Dr. Joe Reczek on developing various functionalities of an emerging class of organic materials, charge-transfer donor-acceptor columnar liquid crystals (DACLCs). In the Reczek Group, Joy also explored other supramolecular organic materials with novel optoelectronic functions, including a specific class of viologen-based redox materials for carbon capture and anthraquinone-based redox materials for renewable energy storage. Joy is now pursuing a Ph.D. in Chemistry at UT under the supervision of Dr. Zak Page.
