Dowon Ahn
Postdoctoral Researcher
UT Austin, 2019 - 2021
Dowon obtained his B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering from Hanyang University in 2007 where he began research in polymer science. After graduating from Hanyang University, Dowon carried out his M.S. studies at Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST). While at KAIST, He explored the interactions between liquid crystals and photo-irradiated polymeric layers for controlling the molecular motion of liquid crystals. After acquiring a mater's degree, he worked at LG Chemicals as a research scientist for 3 years and conducted research to develop novel backsheet protection films for silicon-based photovoltaic devices to afford improved weatherability. In 2012, Dowon started his Ph.D. studies in the laboratories of Prof. Timothy Scott at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. His doctoral studies focused on the synthesis of hexaarylbiimidazole (HABI)-based organic compounds and their utilization toward the development of novel functional materials (i.e., self-healing polymers). Prior to UT, Dowon was employed at Samsung SDI and conducted research on polymer thin film as coating layer for extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography. Dowon worked on visible light 3D printing in the Page Group and in 2021 started as a Senior Researcher at the Korea Research Institute of Chemical Technology (KRICT).
